TRACY is funded by the European Commission’s Seventh Framework Programme. The project’s main aim is to develop an action plan that can help tackle the challenges of providing transport in an ageing society.

20 good examples will be presented in a report, to show how national placement policy make a difference for local development. The topics for evaluation will be global and local environment, spacial efficiency, public life in city centres, contribution to business, saving of culture, estetics and accessability for all.

The exisiting city-plan is from 1998, and there is a need to update and point out the options and directions for further development. The most urgent need is more housing, and there is a debate on how many inhabitants Longyearbyen can and should host.

To double the share of cyclists in Norway, the most important measure is to establish continously cycle paths in the cities. The plan is valid for the period 2010-2019, and aims to continue the good work that has already started. To stimulate the work there has been established a network of aprox 60 cities to cooperate and educate each other.
